Dear Parents/Caregivers
I hope this update finds you well and finding some time to relax. I am writing to update our AACA families regarding California Governor Gavin Newsom’s most recent orders issued on Sunday 7/19/2020. Those orders called for all California Schools both public and private to open this Fall with a distance learning model. We were all so looking forward to opening our campuses for on-site learning, however, AACA has no choice but to follow the Governor’s orders. We will open with a distance learning platform.
AACA has been offering its students education and support services via a distance learning model since March. As we are all aware, our students are very unique learners, and to that end; require highly individualized educational programs. Following the announcement on Sunday, I immediately began contacting the California Department of Education, Special Education Division to understand exactly what guidelines we must adhere to while trying to deliver education via a distance learning model to our students this Fall.
I have discovered that we do have some additional flexibility under the CDE’s current guidelines. To that end, AACA is able to offer certain services and supports in person (either on campus or in the home). We are now working very hard as a team to plan exactly what this will look like and what options we will be offering our families.
We understand the impact the recent closures have had on our students. AACA is committed to flexing as much as the law will allow. We intend to deliver education and services in a way that with your engagement, will assist your student in regaining any skills that may have been lost and the ability to continue with an upward educational trajectory.
We will be sending a framework just as soon as it is available. We will also be scheduling meetings with our parents to answer questions and discuss programming. Please keep in mind, new orders can be issued which may once again enable AACA to open its campuses. We will have to remain hopeful and keep our minds and hearts open to new possibilities and experiences. Thank you all for your patience, encouragement and continued support during these turbulent times.
